I did a year there but couldn’t bear the incompetent micromanaging bosses for any longer than that. It was a bit shit but not nearly as bad as OP makes out.

The accommodation was fine and staff can find their own accommodation after the first year if they want to. Housing allowance is the same or very similar to Dulwich and British School of Beijing.

You can definitely afford a decent apartment wherever you want. The campus is a short walk from a subway station which is three stops from Wangjing which has numerous bars, restaurants and malls. It’s a lot closer to downtown than Shunyi where many international schools are located. Nearby there’s a large park, an outlet mall, a well known art gallery with beautiful grounds and a nice cafe, some good restaurants etc. Some families like living beside the campus so their kids can use the pool and sports field in the weekends.

We were told during the hiring process that families could access the sports facilities and swimming pool. The sports hall is booked out on an almost permanent basis for fixtures which is great but of course then not available to residents. The swimming pool is only open for 2hours on a Sunday to families. 

On-site residents report issues with their apartments on a daily basis and if you’re fine with accommodation that is known to flood with raw sewage that’s great but we would’ve like to have known about that before signing on lmao - Knotfromaroundhere

Lack of social committee is because not enough staff signed up to fund it.
The housing allowance is fine. 11000RMB per month can get you an exceptional place to live, especially if you live closer to school. People love to compare to WAB and ISB, but majority schools in the city I interviewed with give 7000-10000.

She mentioned her son (who is very real) and it looks like the video editor cut it with a random shot of a student at school. The video does portray her real home and her real partner.
The campus is literally 5 minutes from WAB, and ISB is even further from city center. Those are considered the 2 best schools in Beijing. Most international schools are out by us. Also, the school is a literal 10 minute walk from a subway stop. There are so many good restaurants, bars, and things to do even in Shunyi. Wangjing is only 20 minutes away. If you can't find good places to eat or things to do, you're not looking for it.
The student issues are real, but overexaggerated.

Harrow Beijing is not perfect, plenty of issues, but it's not the hell hole OP describes. It's just a normal international school with normal international school BS. - the_candlestikkmaker

For a Tier 2 bilingual school in Beijing I don’t think the pay is that bad.

Housing 11,000 for single, 13,500 for married and I think more if you have kids.

10% annual bonus.

Flight 13,500 annually (dependents get the Same). Paid directly no fapiao required.

I worked there for three years and absolutely loved my time there.

Whilst I can’t comment on most of these points as things may have changed in the 6 years since I was there, the comment about an hour journey to decent bars, cafes or restaurants is nonsense. There’s a huge expat community in Shunyi. I still dream about a BBQ chicken pizza from Pie Squared, roughly 10 minutes from the school (in a strip with multiple restaurants, a bar and a western supermarket around the corner).

When I was there, the housing was 10,500RMB and that was enough for an ok 1 bedroom apartment in Sanlitun. I lived in both International Wonderland and Sun City without having to add more to the house allowance. However, I appreciate things may have gotten more expensive since I left.

The package was more than decent (again, this may have changed since my day there). We got our annual bonus from the first year, most schools make you wait until the end of your two year contract, then annually after that. We also got our flight allowance paid in cash. - Wooden_Walrus_7634
