Merchiston International School

Shenzhen; main campus, not Shekou junior campus

Comments

The Shekou campus is for Juniors. The main campus is on the opposite side of the city in the mountains. Not near anywhere. Staff are housed in Longua and they provide a school bus that takes about 30 mins in the morning and 40/50 mins after school. - SaleemNasir22

Worked there during covid, so circumstances made everything a bit challenging at that time. I've certainly worked in worse schools in China! At the time, they had some excellent teachers and a fantastic Principal / Headmaster. Accommodation was nice (Rented apartment nearer to the city centre, near the subway and 2 big malls) and had a free bus to and from campus every day (Great excuse to make sure you left work on time!).

Unfortunately, low student numbers led to cost cutting and scope creep for staff's roles and responsibilities. Due to this, staff became a bit disgruntled and turnover became excessive (Both local and international staff) - We're talking 60-70% turnover, maybe more, including almost all key leaders / managers), which really didn't help things. The Shekou campus wasn't open when I was there (They were trying to get it started), so can't comment on that - but it would be a better location to live in for most people.

I mainly left because I couldn't take the humidity in the south of China - Just not for me! - Slowly_balding
