Jiahui Hospital

This place is honestly disgusting. The facilities are nice and some of the staff is professional, but I have had a long list of documented issues with their lack of compassion and professionalism. Here are just a few of the incidents I’ve encountered:
In general, they tended to overprescribe medicine most likely to overcharge your insurance. I’d go in for a cold and walk out with 6 different medications.
While recovering from a serious surgery, I was experiencing severe nerve pain and their methods of controlling the pain were ineffective. The pain was so severe that I was going in and out of consciousness. When I complained to the chief anesthesiologist, he blew me off and told me “I’ll give you a pill tomorrow” and left me to suffer for hours until my surgeon came to check on me.
The chief anesthesiologist had left by then, and the technician who installed my nerve blocker was incompetent and struggled with inserting it into my neck, causing me unnecessary pain and suffering.
After a follow-up surgery, it was right after the lockdown in 2022. They barely fed me and I couldn’t order delivery. I complained two days in a row that a hard boiled egg and piece of bread wasn’t a sufficient breakfast and that I was starving. These complaints were ignored until the administration finally met with me while I was being discharged.
I once made an appointment and the staff decided to change specialists without my consent. I went to the appointment, which lasted under three minutes and the specialist told me that there was nothing he could do for me and sent me to the ER. I was still charged for the consultation. I complained, they investigated themselves, and found no wrongdoing and that I still had to pay.
When I found out that my father had a serious stroke, I tried to book an emergency appointment with the psychology department, but their customer service ghosted me as they switched communication from wechat to their app without informing me. By the time I was able to see anyone, my physical condition was so bad that I hadn’t been able to eat for a week and was referred to the ER. To make up for it, they offered me a free online consultation. They didn’t give me a meeting link.
I missed half of the appointment scrambling to find a way to connect with the specialist.
When I returned to China after seeing my dad die slowly and in agony in front of me, I was still suffering from severe GI problems. The GI made me go through an endoscopy exam which was invasive and unnecessary.
The GI woke me up from the anesthesia, told me that there was nothing wrong with me and that he read my medical records and said that I was having mental problems and then said “you need to get over your dad dying”, refused to prescribe anything (including Zofran, which helped with controlling the vomiting), and walked away. This was incredibly unprofessional and lacking in any form of compassion considering what I had just went through, as was the response from their customer service team.
This is when I decided, after all these incidents, that this place is not suitable for my medical care.
I went to another hospital. When I tried to get a refill for medication that Jiahui had prescribed for me, the pharmacy rejected the request because two of the medications that Jiahui had prescribed me had a dangerous interaction. When I reported this to Jiahui, they investigated themselves and found no wrongdoing (do you see a pattern here?).
That was two years ago. After no contact and finding much more professional and compassionate care from SinoUnited, I started receiving emails from a bill collection agency for denied claims (a meager 850 yuan) that I thought was initially a scam. I once again contacted Jiahui and asked if this was for real. It was. I asked why they had not tried to contact me regarding this before resorting to a bill collector.
They said they had emailed me about it (I have no record of this email) and messaged me by text (I searched and found a single text message from April 2024). I asked them why they didn’t try to follow up with me on this rather than send a debt collector after me after two years and their only response is that they informed me in 2024 and so they were within their rights to send a debt collector after me.
I followed up requesting a copy of the original email, which they didn’t provide and now refuse to communicate with me, instead having the debt collectors send me threatening emails, over, I will repeat, a meager 850 yuan. I paid the bill weeks ago and I’m still receiving emails from the debt collector threatening me with legal action even though I told them I paid it off.
I was willing to just move on after such a horrible experience but now this last part just shows how shady and unprofessional this hospital is. Don’t let the fancy facilities fool you, this hospital does not care about their patients at all.
Edit: I should mention that the debt collectors are called inter-credit. They’re absolute scumbags. They’ve been threatening me with “legal action” for weeks even though I already paid the bills.
Other experiences in the discussion
I had a very different experience at Jihua. I went in for a routine yearly checkup and my GYN found a mass. I was immediately sent for scans, a biopsy was arranged for the next day and within a week my left ovary which was covered in cysts the size of an apple were removed. My doctor was excellent. The care was very good and I had no complaints. Which in contrast to my care at several Chinese hospitals from a head injury a few months earlier was a godsend.
Counterpoint, had a semi-major surgery there and my doctors were as professional as could be and I owe one of them my life as they found something concerning that was previously undetected . Never once had a bad experience with them, including my follow up and regular appointments to this day. Idk if it differs greatly depending on the department but I'd recommend my doctors to anybody.

There’s good doctors at every hospital but if you read the post, most of my problems are with administration and management
