In early January 2020, during the first outbreak, foreigners felt pity for the Chinese people. We saw how many died and the virus spread so easily to many cities in China. This led to foreigners contributing to the Chinese for love, some donated, huge amounts of money, masks, while others sought to help from their governments who sent a helping hand to the Chinese. 

What baffles me is that when Chinese people needed manpower, most of us did voluntarily work for them, many foreigners had to spend their time helping the Chinese people out of love and kindness. Few sang songs of encouragement for the Chinese people, saying “Jiayou,” which means to add oil, “be strong China you can do it.” We stood and worked with them during the time of the epidemic outbreak.

“The pandemic in some way is a magical mirror that exposes a person’s morality and character to the fullest extent. COVID-19 knows no ideology, border or race. The destinies of all countries are closely intertwined. No one can shift the blames. The only way to defeat the virus is through solidarity and cooperation and understanding.” This was said by foreign ministry spokesman “Hua Chunying”

But now many conspiracy theories have caused an uproar in China and led to discrimination against foreigners. We are banned from entering malls and supermarkets. Many foreigners were not allowed to use public transportation, especially public buses, etc. Some Chinese owned businesses choose to exclude foreign customers, and labeled us “virus”. When they see foreigners some of them try to avoid us as soon as possible.

Security men often come to my door house and check my details and documents, I even consistently have to re-assure complex security guards that, YES, I have been in my city the whole time.

The world is dealing with a serious pandemic crisis and you point fingers of blame at us the foreigners. All this blame-game does is get us working against each other.  This was not an attack on us by some enemy.  This was nature and circumstance. The virus evolves so fast.  No one could have predicted today.

Although the reason why Chinese nationals treat Africans badly is that some picture African continent as a place plagued with poverty and corruption, or a barren wasteland filled with starving citizens. Much of western media coverage surrounding Africa tend to focus on negative attributes or problems. Despite the existence of modern life and developed cities with running water and electricity in Africa, they still forget that civilization began in Africa and modern architecture was born in Africa. I that depict a continent in ruins are run in favor of those involving solutions or uplifting articles that depict African citizens in a positive light.

Under the veil of discussion, you’ve allowed people to speculate on origins as though somehow that will cure this and show us who is at fault for everyone getting sick.  Holding the shield that protects us in one hand while blindly swinging the sword of our destruction in the other.  You are in positions of power. Every one of you. Your words are meaningful — each one weighted with the power to heal or destroy. Choose them carefully because we need to be united in our efforts.  It falls on all of our shoulders to create that unity. You are a spokesman. You are mouthpieces. And an ambassador of your country.

Start representing our rational thoughts. Mine is not filled with hate and venom. Mine is focused on curing this and rebuilding it. Mine is focused on all those sacrificing themselves for everyone’s benefit. While you stand there and allow people to twist words and raise suspicions of each other, and abuse foreigners there are good people from ALL of these places actively dying and sacrificing so the rest of us, including you, will see it through this. We are the people you are supposed to represent. Start representing us. Start using that keyboard to be worthy of the sacrifice to those who have made on your behalf to build a brighter future.

Listen, and take note, I expressed my views in raw form, by simply pointing out an issue that has been happening and issues that need to be addressed.

I am not preaching hate I am saying what is. As much as I am here to learn positivity, I am also here to teach positive attributes of my origin. I am not racist, I am not into hate speech. We can grow together, but we need to grow towards tolerance and acceptance.

We have to know that we have Chinese people in other countries and we shouldn’t forget “Karma”. Let’s treat each other with respect.
